Only one Bertucci’s restaurant remains in New Hampshire after two more restaurants in the state abruptly closed Monday. The closings of the Manchester and Salem locations come as the restaurant chain files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in federal court. In the filing, the chain’s parent company cited the impact of COVID-19 and inflation, both of which have led to lower sales and higher costs. In fiscal 2021, the chain posted an operating loss of $14 million and a net loss of $7.2 million. A Bertucci’s employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said employees learned the New Hampshire mall was closing permanently during a meeting Monday morning. “I was pretty blind,” the worker said. “I had no idea what the meeting was going to be about. I expected it to be about how we’re going to push the holiday.” The restaurant on Amherst Street in Nashua is the only one left in the Granite State, according to the company’s list of store locations. It is still open daily at 11am. Employees were being offered a weight package or a transfer to the Nashua area. “But after talking to the management team, they are full of people from the Salem location and their ships are full. The number of servers is already there,” the employee said. “So they won’t be able to fulfill the transfer promise. “Many are now left looking for new places to work. It’s not the best business decision for Bertucci’s to close two locations right before the holidays,” the employee said. Six restaurants in Massachusetts have also closed, according to a comparison of the company’s list from Tuesday and earlier this year. Bertucci’s still owns 31 restaurants in the country, including 20 in Massachusetts, 1 in New Hampshire, and Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia, according to the report.Bertucci’s has assets between $10 million and $50 million. No commitment noted.
