Iran’s state news agency ISNA said on Friday that Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi had ordered an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
On Tuesday evening, Mahsa Amini and her family, who were traveling from the Kurdistan region of Iran to visit relatives in the capital Tehran, were stopped by a patrol of the morality police, a special unit that enforces strict dress codes for women. compulsory head covering.
According to IranWire, human rights activists who spoke to the family said that the police grabbed Amin and forced him into a police car.
Her brother Kiarash tried to intervene and told his sister he was being taken to the police station for an hour of “re-education”, reports IranWire.
Kiaraş said he never saw his sister awake again.
While she was waiting outside the police station to be released, an ambulance approached and carefully took her sister to the hospital.
In an interview with IranWire, Kiaras said that he suffered a heart attack or stroke while at the police station and is in a coma.
Tehran police said on Thursday that Amini “suffered a heart attack” after his arrest on Tuesday.
“The woman was sent to the Greater Tehran police station for guidance and education when she suddenly had a heart attack in the presence of other people,” the police said.
Ami’s family questioned the police version of events, saying he was a normal, healthy 22-year-old with no heart disease.
“There were only two hours between his arrest and being taken to the hospital,” Kiaras told IranWire.
A video broadcast by Iranian state television showed Amini going to an “education” center where she would receive “guidance” on proper Islamic dress, state media said.
The edited video shows CCTV footage of the woman sitting down before falling to the floor, then getting up to speak to an “expert” who touched her clothes.
In the clip below, five unconscious men show him on a stretcher. Then another shot shows an ambulance.
There is a 19-second cut in the video, after which the woman stands up and speaks. It appears to be daylight outside before the cut. It looks dark after cutting.
“Mrs. Amini looks bad and falls to the ground,” said a state media reporter.
It is not known what happened to Amy after her arrest and before she reappeared at the education center. CNN has not been able to confirm that the woman in the video is Amini.
Iranian officials said on Saturday that Amin’s body had been autopsied. Director of Iran’s Forensic Medical Expertise Organization, Mehdi Forozesh, spoke on state television and said that the results will be announced after further examination by medical experts.
US President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, tweeted on Friday that the White House was deeply concerned about Ami’s death.
Amini was “reportedly beaten in custody by Iran’s morality police. His death is inexcusable. We will continue to hold Iranian officials accountable for such human rights abuses,” Sullivan tweeted.
