A first-time Apple user describes his experience after a year
Written by admin

It’s officially been a year since I became an Apple user. Now, as an Apple blogger, coming from a unique perspective, it felt like the right time to reflect on the experience.

Background

Android has always been my phone of choice. I got the stigma that Apple was too expensive and I found them unaffordable to buy. As someone who looks at his products, I’ve never owned one myself. I’m barely even exposed to Apple devices.

As a college student shopping for my first smartphone on a budget, I was impressed by the camera and size of Samsung’s Galaxy series. I was blown away by the small size and boxiness of the iPhone. I had an Android tablet at the time, so I felt comfortable staying in the Android family. Also, every smartphone I’ve owned before has been a Samsung; and these devices were good for me.

But that all changed when I became an Apple user for the first time last year.

Reasons for switching to Apple products

In July 2021, I found myself in my place verizon store, badly in need of improvement. At the time, my current phone was a Samsung Galaxy S7 that I bought in 2016. When I finally upgraded it made my phone five years old. Even though I was considering an iPhone in 2016, I had to rush the S7 and he wasn’t quite ready to make the switch.

Over time, I got tired of how slow the S7 was and was ready for a faster and more modern device. YouTube has become a source of information for researching phones. While looking at the iPhone 12, I finally found an iPhone that I thought looked good and matched my desire for a simple interface.

The iPhone sealed the deal

When I was with Verizon, I researched all the deals with a nice sales rep to find the package that was right for me. We settled on the purple iPhone 12, which gave me a special deal on the Apple Watch SE. What drew me to the iPhone was that I had an interview at a local house a few hours later apple store. Fun fact, the first call I ever made on my first iPhone was from Apple itself!

Tips for iPhone Newbies

A month later I started working as an Apple Store Specialist. You are probably thinking; How did someone with no experience with Apple products get a job at the company? Probably what helped my experience working in the hospitality industry. At the Apple Store, Apple is more about your people skills than your knowledge. It didn’t hurt that I was a former Walt Disney World employee and the hiring manager was a huge Disney fan.

iOS is a culture shock for a first-time Apple user

Switching from Android to iPhone came as a complete culture shock to me. Navigating through iOS felt like I was in foreign territory. However, I got over it and started to enjoy my new iPhone while it was very easy to use.

One thing I especially miss on Android is a little blinking light that alerts me with a notification when my phone is in sleep mode. Even after a year, I still expect to see the flashing light alerting me to check my phone.

Benefits of being a user of Apple products

iPhone is very simple. Its simplicity is so appealing that over the past year I’ve convinced many family members to switch to Apple as well. The integration of all my Apple devices is perfect; I never knew an ecosystem of devices could coordinate so beautifully. Also, don’t get me started on the Mac!

After a year, I know the ins and outs of the iPhone and love the experience. In seven years with Samsung Galaxies, I could barely make a phone call a few days. Now it’s a relief from my shoulder to have a phone that doesn’t complicate things for me and is a pleasure to use.

Products I use

Apple products I bought last year (thanks to the Apple Store discount) include:

Will I go back to Android?

I would totally go back to Android. There is no particular reason for this; maybe i just miss the samsung brand? I know people love the advanced customization features that Androids offer; I don’t really care. Now, when it comes to computers, I’ve been completely back to Windows as my main focus. I actually still have my HP laptop and love having both Windows and Mac.

I will come as an Apple user

In my year as an Apple fan, I’ve been pretty happy so far. But there are a few things I’d like to change in year two.

Ideally, I’d like to work on an iPad with a more Mac-like experience. As much as I love the iPad, it can be horrible to work with, depending on what you’re doing. I use an iPad (9th generation), which is a fantastic tablet, but not a machine for heavy multitaskers.

Another thing I’m looking forward to in my future as an Apple user is becoming more camera skills. Since the iPhone’s camera has become such a game changer, I need to know how to take really good photos. If you are an iPhone camera enthusiast, I would recommend it.

When did you first become an Apple user? I’m curious what brought YOU to Apple devices? Let me know in the comments!
