An ungodly tourist who was later greeted by an angry mob climbing the ancient mayan pyramid A 29-year-old Mexican national was identified this week in Chichén Itza, Mexico.

Authorities said Abigail Villalobos tried to pass herself off as Hispanic after being arrested for her viral stunt, but it has since been determined that she is actually from Mexico.

Villalobos was detained for about 30 minutes at the Tinum police station on Monday, fined the equivalent of $260 and then released. By Mexican news agency Golfo Pacifico.

Villalobos sparked outrage when visitors broke rules prohibiting them from scaling the 98-meter Kukulcan Maya Temple, named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World by UNESCO in 2007.

Villalobos sparked outrage by ignoring a ban that forbids visitors from climbing the Mayan pyramid and dancing on the steps.

He was seen in TikTok videos dancing on the steps at the top of the pyramid as he entered the temple, before descending to loud jeers from the crowd of visitors.

Angry onlookers hurled insults at the violator, calling him “hole” and “stupid” in Spanish and demanding his arrest.

Some particularly offended witnesses went as far as dousing Villalobos with water, knocking his hat off his head and pulling his blonde locks as he was led away by officials from Mexico’s Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).

The 29-year-old entered the temple briefly before descending the stairs.

The viral stunt earned the mindless culprit the mocking nickname “Lady Chichén Itza” on social media sites.

The Mayan pyramid, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, has been closed to visitors since 2008 for conservation purposes.

The temple, also known as El Castillo, was not damaged, the National Institute of Anthropology and History said Monday.

The unknowing woman was greeted by officials from the Mexican archeology department and angry onlookers.

Villalobos, who was doused with water and had his hair combed, was detained for 30 minutes before being released.

Mexico’s Federal Law on Monuments and Archeological, Artistic and Historic Areas imposes fines of $2,500 to $5,000 for unauthorized access to the site.

The Step Pyramid was built by the Mayan civilization between the 8th and 12th centuries AD to serve as a temple for the Feathered Serpent God Kukulcan.

In 2021, a woman from Tijuana, Mexico was found to have climbed the same pyramid while allegedly drunk.
