Google’s Pixel Watch has been in the works for years, and Google is more than happy to drop hints about what it’s up to. There are two versions: WiFi/Bluetooth or the one with its own LTE modem, only $50 more. Both rock the Exynos 9110 SoC originally found on the Samsung Galaxy Watch through the Watch 3, which was released in 2018 and is paired with a Cortex M33 processor, 32GB of storage, and 2GB of RAM. This speaks to the fact that Google chose not to use Qualcomm’s own wearable SoC, which is found in almost every other Samsung Wear OS watch these days, and which is several years old at this point. Although Samsung and Fitbit already cover almost every part of the wearables market between them, it’s unclear which specific group Google is targeting here.
Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS Insight, agrees, saying that “the Pixel Watch poses zero threat to the Apple Watch” and that its presence is more about “raising smartwatch awareness for Android smartphone owners and encouraging more of those people to consider buying one.” wearable”.
