Scene youtuber Modded Warfare has released an impressive video tutorial detailing the full PS4 download. In the video, youtube downgrades from 6.72 to 10.01, then downgrades from 10.01 to 6.72.
PS4 download. Important notes and disclaimer (seriously, read this first!)
Now, to be extremely clear: this is nothing new or groundbreaking at this point, and the bottom line is that you can only go back to the firmware you backed up (your own console). Additionally, if your console is Jailbroken, it’s easier to create an initial backup, although it’s possible to do this on a “normal” console as well.
So, in other words, If you’re on a non-jailbreakable firmware (eg 10.01 at the time of writing) and hoping this will allow you to downgrade your console to jailbreakable firmware, the answer is no, unless you’ve done some prep work at a point where your console can be jailbroken. .
In my opinion, this means that the guide will likely be useless to the vast majority of people who find it, usually too late. However, it is of great value for many reasons. First of all, I’m not sure there’s ever been such a detailed (and well-made!) guide on how to do this. Second, we say on this blog that the PS4 download “technically possible, but…“, so now it will be easy to refer to MW’s video to explain why this is difficult at best and impossible in most cases. As Modded Warfare points out, Jailbreakable may also be of some value to people who are “locked” in software but want to update to the latest and greatest version so they can play online. These people can backup the current firmware (hopefully it can be jailbroken eventually), then update to the latest firmware. Eventually, this could lead to easier download methods someday, especially if some ambitious modders try to work on modchip solutions that don’t require any soldering.
With all of the above in mind, assuming you want to back up your PS4 so you can “easily” roll back to a newer firmware and then a Jailbroken console, here’s my honest advice:
Buy a second PS4 and do not try to follow this download guide.
Look, I’m not kidding, having two PS4s is probably a safer idea than trying to downgrade, and it might actually be cheaper if you don’t already have the necessary stuff. (Give or take, there’s about $200 worth of hardware to own/buy for less). This may change in the future if the process becomes easier or there are significant reasons to go back and forth (such as unblocking), but For now, downgrading a PS4 is extremely difficult, with significant risks of permanently bricking the console, and is more of a technical shocker than a useful or cost-effective one.🇧🇷
With all that being said, if you’re looking to stick around for a technically interesting video or personal information, you might be the right audience for this. At the very least, you might want to watch the video to hear MW say with a straight face, “We’ll take some trash” or “we’ll take some good trash” 🙂
Required tools
Note that the process will be easier if you start with a Jailbroken PS4, and MW’s video describes it.
Here’s what you need to develop and implement the low version. It is recommended to prepare all these tools (hardware or software) in advance.
Required Equipment
- A PS4 with software you’ll eventually want to come back to
- This is important. This is a “restore backup” Download method and will not allow you to download software that you never backed up in the first place. Using someone else’s backup won’t work either!
- as Hardware illuminator Elegant 4 (this is required to get SFlash0 from a non-jailbroken console and copy it back during the download process. Also required for system wipe)
- heat gun (To solder the Syscon chip. This is required to back it up)
- THE soldering iron
- THE a pair of tweezers
- THE TQFP Council
- THE 4 KOhm Resistor
- Add to PCB wires
- THE junction diode
- THE USB – TTL Adapter
- Replacement system chip (depends on your motherboard model to order, R5F100LLAFB or R5F100PLA, you can find them on Aliexpress)
- As I understand it, this is not required, but recommended, so you don’t have to keep these chips on all the time
- Renesas E2 Lite Programmeror other flasher
Required software
- BwE NOR Validatorthis will help confirm that your backup files are not corrupted (download from here🇧🇷
- An FTP Client like filezilla
- HDD raw copy (for hard disk backup)
- Drivers for your USB-TTL adapter (eg CP2102 drivers shown above)
- MW package file contains the software required for the glitch process
To prepare for downgrading your PS4, you need to back it up
The following information needs to be backed up and then restored to download PS4:
- A complete backup of the console’s hard drive
- PS4 SFlash0 (NOR Firmware)
- Getting SFlash0 from the Jailbroken console is pretty easy as it’s a file you can just copy from FTP.
- ps4 system
As a TL, DR, the idea is that you backup the above 3 data, then you should be able to upgrade to higher firmware and then back. Modded Warfare’s video has all the details, of course.
