While the return of a few familiar series traps and a noticeable lack of freeform climbing never threaten to spoil the enjoyment, it leaves it frustratingly short of anything revolutionary. However, major evolutionary steps have been taken in the right direction, and there’s no doubt that you’ll have lots and lots of fun with Aloy, who claims to be one of the greatest characters of this gaming generation. Partisan Prohibition has once again outdone itself with the West, and on this trajectory, neither the horizon nor the sky is the limit for what’s to come.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is amazing. Not only does it deliver a game that looks as good as the improved technology promised to last-gen consoles, but it’s also a fantastic experience to play. Insomniac has been around the Ratchet and Clank block many times before, but Rivet and other new characters add a lot of charm, wit and heart to a franchise I’ve loved for most of my life. It’s the best action platformer of the series, combined with incredible art and sound design throughout. Rift Apart may not be the biggest adventure around, but its big heart, wild weapons, and incredible detail easily make it one of the most memorable of the year.
Demon’s Souls

The Bluepoint team had the unenviable task of remaking an 11-year-old game and making it look and play like the first game developed from the ground up for the current generation of consoles. And that’s exactly what they did. Demon’s Souls is breathtakingly beautiful and plays significantly better than it did on PS3, not just thanks to the PlayStation 5’s graphical prowess, but also clever quality-of-life tweaks and light touches that modernize some of the original’s frustrating aspects, from a never-ending challenge to a puzzle-filled boss. without sacrificing its combat and the style that made it such an iconic game in the first place.

Every moment of Returnal’s gameplay is spectacular, with a huge selection of weapons each with a variety of interesting possible properties, meaningful strategic decisions that can make or break a run, and punishingly difficult yet rewarding gameplay. consistently thrilling gunplay. Even with all this focus on the action, it never overwhelms the story. Its big problem is that the final path takes too long, and there’s no way to save progress other than putting the PS5 into rest mode. This reduces the urge to immediately go back and try again after a failure, although not enough to stop it. Regardless, Returnal is an incredible roguelike and one of Housemarque’s best games to date.
