Strange moment shark ‘jumps’ 8-year-old boy as he climbs into coral trout boat on Great Barrier Reef
- A shark jumps on a boy who climbs into a boat after spearing a fish
- The predator was trying to take the fish it had killed
- The boy is later shown unharmed from the close encounter
An eight-year-old boy had a shockingly close call with a shark while climbing into a boat after spearfishing.
In a viral state TikTok The video, which has been questioned by some on social media, shows a man asking Manny what he brought back from the ocean after fishing around Lady Musgrave Island, off Queensland’s central coast.
Grabbing a ladder at the back of the boat, Manny lifts a large fish onto the diving platform and starts talking about sharks.

A shark then suddenly appears, swinging to take the fish from Manny’s hand, but breaking mid-air as its head hits the boy.
According to the creator of the video, Manny survived the close encounter.
“I just felt a little bit, a little chest pain, but that’s it,” Manny said Nine News.
Asked if the random attack has stopped him from taking the plunge, Manny said, “I’m going back.”
Not everyone was sure the video was legit.

A few minutes after getting the fish into the boat, a shark appears out of nowhere to throw to Manny.
“It looks like the shark is dead and someone is pushing it on the kid,” wrote a skeptic in the comments.
The video continues, showing the fish that Manny speared, although it looked different from the one he had thrown into the boat earlier.
Certainly if he had any ill effects from his encounter with a shark, Manny doesn’t show them as he lifts a big fish with a big smile.

Although the predator turns into a very face-to-face encounter with Manny, he makes it out unscathed.
However, the video maker is not too impressed.
‘It’s a fool, a tried fish in the ocean, why did you shoot it?’ the man asks.
“Because he kept swimming at me, he didn’t stop, he was dumb, he was dumb to keep in my face like, ‘come hit me,’ so I hit him,” Manny replies.
“You will eat it yourself,” says the director.
In the comments, he later revealed that the milkfish was given to a local.
Daily Mail Australia has reached out to the video maker for further comment.
